Visto quello che è accaduto agli Hugo c'era molta attesa quest'anno per i Premi Nebula, giunti tra l'altro quest'anno alla loro cinquantesima edizione. Basterà dire che nessuno dei vincitori del Nebula è tra i finalisti al premio Hugo.
Tra le annotazioni che vanno fatte c'è la settima vittoria in questo premio per Nancy Kress, ancora con un romanzo breve – forse la lunghezza che le è più congeniale – categoria nella quale aveva già vinto con Mendicanti in Spagna, Il trattamento D e Dopo la caduta, tutti e tre usciti in Odissea Fantascienza Delos Books. Nel miglior romanzo vince invece Jeff VanderMeer, con Annihilation, edito in Italia da Einaudi col titolo Annientamento.
Il premio Ray Bradbury per la migliore sceneggiatura cinematografica va un po' a sorpresa a Guardians of the Galaxy, mentre Alaya Dawn Johnson si porta a casa un premio per il miglior racconto lungo e uno per il miglior romanzo young adult.
A Larry Niven è stato attribuito il titolo di Grand Master.
