Il conto alla rovescia è davvero incominciato. Così - con largo anticipo - è l'ultima ottima colonna sonora di John Williams a precedere l'uscita cinematografica del capitolo conclusivo della nuova trilogia di Guerre Stellari.

La musica è opera del cinque volte premio Oscar John Williams, che ha composto e diretto tutte le colonne sonore della saga di Star Wars. L'album contiene anche uno straordinario DVD da collezione -Star Wars: A Musical Journey- in omaggio.

Il DVD, della durata di 70 minuti, contiene 16 nuovi video musicali, che sono stati realizzati mantenendo la cronologia della saga, con musiche tratte dalle sei indimenticabili colonne sonore di Star Wars composte da John Williams. Ogni video è introdotto dall'attore Ian McDiarmid (che interpreta il ruolo del Senatore Palpatine nei film) e presenta uno spettacolare montaggio di immagini, completate da estratti dei dialoghi e degli effetti sonori originali, con la leggendaria musica di John Williams rimixata e rimasterizzata in 5.1 surround per l'occasione. Per il tema principale di Williams della nuova colonna sonora, intitolato "Battle of the Heroes", sarà realizzato un video musicale ad opera della Lucasfilm.

Il packaging della colonna sonora contiene note di copertina di George Lucas oltre ad un esclusivo poster con un montaggio di immagini tratte dal film.

Williams, 43 nomination agli Oscar in curriculum, ha composto le musiche per il film utilizzando temi e motivi che richiamano le precedenti musiche dei film di Star Wars. Williams stesso ha diretto la London Symphony Orchestra.

Il più bello dei tre scores della nuova trilogia. Speriamo che anche il film ci regali la stessa bella sorpresa!
