A.I. Artificial Intelligence e The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring si sono aggiudicati le categorie più significative alla ventottesima edizione dei Saturn Awards, i premi riservati all'audiovisivo di genere (quindi sia cinema che televisione), promossi dall'Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films e dalla rivista Cinescape.

Durante la cerimonia di premiazione, tenutasi a Los Angeles lo scorso 10 giugno, al film di Steven Spielberg & Stanley Kubrick sono stati assegnati cinque premi, mentre tre sono andati a quello di Peter Jackson. Va detto che nella categoria "miglior film", A.I. ha trovato una concorrenza abbastanza debole, considerato che le altre nomination erano Jurassic Park III, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The One, Planet of the Apes e Vanilla Sky.

D'altro canto i giurati non devono aver impiegato molto nemmeno a dare il primo posto al film di Jackson, i cui avversari erano Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Monsters, Inc., The Mummy Returns, Shrek e Spy Kids.

Sul fronte dell'horror, The Others, sofisticata pellicola di Alejandro Amenabar con Nicole Kidman, ha battuto la concorrenza di The Devil's Backbone, From Hell, Hannibal, Jeepers Creepers e Thirteen Ghosts. Nella categoria miglior thriller ha invece trionfato Memento. L'originalissimo (e bellissimo) film di Cristopher Nolan ha sbaragliato Black Hawk Down, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Joy Ride, The Man Who Wasn't There e Mulholland Drive.

Nella categoria riservata ai prodotti per la televisione, infine, nulla è cambiato: i premi per le migliori serie TV sono stati divisi tra Farscape e Buffy the Vampire Slayer, esattamente come lo scorso anno. Ma vediamo i premi nei dettagli:
