Sono stati 1800 tondi i votanti alla prima fase del Premio Hugo 2019. Aventi diritto i partecipanti alla Worldcon 2018 di San Jose e gli iscritti alla Worldcon 2019 di Dublino. I premi saranno assegnati a Dublino, questa estate.

La notizia senz'altro più rilevante è la nettissima prevalenza di autrici tra i finalisti, tanto che abbiamo voluto usare il femminile nel titolo dell'articolo. Nelle categorie letterarie sono ventiquattro donne contro sei uomini. 

Tra le autrici diversi nomi noti in Italia, magari anche solo con racconti pubblicati da Robot o in ebook: Mary Robinette Kowal, Rebecca Roanhorse, Nnedi Okorafor, Aliette de Bodard, Sarah Pinsker, ma anche diversi nomi nuovi.

Tra i finalisti nella categoria artista anche Galen Gara, autrice delle copertine di Robot 2019.
