Lanciato l'anno scorso come momento clou della DragonCon, la più grande convention americana del fantastico, il Dragon Award giunge alla seconda edizione e propone una carrellata di vincitori interessanti e diversi da quelli visti al Premio Hugo. Sebbene la presenza di Larry Correia come vincitore nella categoria fantasy faccia drizzare le orecchie, secondo gli esperti il numero di voti è stato sufficientemente alto da rendere ininfluenti i tentativi di appropriazione da parte delle liste come Rabid Dogs e soci.
Il premio è stato assegnato durante la DragonCon che si è tenuta come sempre ad Atlanta, al Marriott Marquis, che è un hotel gigantesco, un palazzo di 52 piani con ben 63 sale conferenze e oltre 1600 stanze. Durante la convention c'è stato anche un incidente: qualcuno ha buttato delle sedie da un piano molto in alto nella hall, colpendo e ferendo alcune persone che sono state portate in ospedale. I colpevoli non sono stati individuati ed è state promesse ricompense a chi avesse visto qualcosa.
